Azerbaijan Visa for UAE Residents
Visa-free, visa on arrival, or e-Visa — we check your eligibility honestly and help you travel to Baku with certainty from our Abu Dhabi office.
About the Azerbaijan Visa for UAE Residents
Many UAE residents travelling to Azerbaijan in 2026 don't need to pay for a visa at all — but whether that applies to you depends on two things: your passport nationality and your UAE residence permit expiry. Get one wrong and the airline can turn you away at the Abu Dhabi gate before you ever reach Baku. Azerbaijan is running a visa-free pilot (2 Feb 2026 – 2 Feb 2027) for UAE citizens and eligible nationalities. UAE and GCC residents with 6+ months on their residence permit can usually get a visa on arrival at Baku airport. Everyone else must apply for the ASAN e-Visa in advance. Big Bird Travel checks your eligibility honestly: if you don't need a paid visa, we'll tell you so. If you genuinely need the e-Visa, we prepare and review your application to prevent the errors that cost people their trip.
Who Can Apply
- UAE citizens — visa-free for up to 90 days under the UAE–Azerbaijan bilateral agreement (since July 2023)
- Eligible nationalities — visa-free under the 2026 pilot program (2 Feb 2026 – 2 Feb 2027), up to 30 days, max 3 visits per year (from the 4th visit, a standard e-Visa is required)
- UAE and GCC residents with 6+ months validity remaining on their residence permit — visa on arrival at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, Baku, for a 30-day stay
- All other applicants — ASAN e-Visa required in advance (single entry, 30-day stay, valid for 90 days from issue date)
Check your UAE residence permit expiry before booking anything. If it has under 6 months of validity left, you are on the e-Visa route — visa on arrival will not be available to you and the airline may refuse boarding in Abu Dhabi. Apply for the e-Visa at least 3–5 days before departure (standard) or use the urgent option (~3 hours) if your trip is imminent. Government e-Visa fees are non-refundable even if an application is rejected, so it's worth getting the details right. Confirm the visa-free pilot eligibility for your specific nationality on the official ASAN portal (evisa.gov.az) before booking — the eligible-nationality list can change.
We assist with document preparation, form completion, and submission guidance. Visa decisions are made solely by the relevant immigration authority.
The one thing that gets UAE travellers stopped at the gate
Here's the trap we see most often: someone assumes they'll get a visa on arrival in Baku, so they don't apply for anything in advance. But their UAE residence permit has less than six months of validity left — and that quietly disqualifies them from visa on arrival. The airline checks this at the gate in Abu Dhabi. If it doesn't add up, you don't board.
So before you do anything else, check the expiry date on your residence visa today. Even if you had plenty of validity when you booked, check again before you fly. If it's under six months, you're on the e-Visa route — apply at least 3–5 days before departure.

Getting your visa on arrival in Baku — step by step
If you qualify (UAE residence permit valid 6+ months, or a GCC residence card), here's exactly what happens at Heydar Aliyev International Airport so nothing surprises you.
Arrive at Baku Airport
Head to the E-ASAN self-service kiosks in the arrivals hall — they sit before passport control.
Scan Your Passport
Place your passport on the scanner and follow the on-screen prompts to fill in a short arrival form.
Pay by Card
Pay the visa fee by debit or credit card at the kiosk. Cash is not accepted at the E-ASAN desks.
Collect Your Visa Slip
The kiosk prints your single-entry visa slip valid for a 30-day stay. Present it at passport control.
We'll tell you honestly if this route is open to you — even if it means you won't need our paid e-Visa service. We'd rather you remember us for the trip.
The 15-day registration rule most people miss
If you're staying in Azerbaijan for more than 15 days, you're required to register your address with the State Migration Service. The good news: if you're in a hotel, they almost always handle this for you automatically — just confirm it at check-in so it doesn't slip through the cracks. Staying with friends or in a private rental? Message us on WhatsApp and we'll point you to the simple online registration process.
