Your UAE residence visa - regardless of your passport nationality - unlocks visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to a number of countries. This is separate from what your passport allows. Europe & Americas

Most European countries require prior visa applications (Schengen) for non-EU passport holders. A handful of exceptions exist for certain passport nationalities. Albania, Serbia, Kosovo, and Bosnia are popular visa-free options for many passport holders with UAE residency.

Important Distinctions

  • Visa-free access based on UAE residency is a benefit offered by SOME countries - not all
  • Your passport nationality still determines most of your visa-free access globally
  • UAE residence does NOT give EU/Schengen visa-free access for non-EU passports
  • UAE residents need a UAE residence visa valid for at least 6 months beyond their travel date for some countries' requirements
  • Transit visa rules are separate - some countries exempt UAE residents from airport transit visas

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can UAE residents travel visa-free to Europe (Schengen)?

Only if your passport nationality has a visa-free agreement with the Schengen zone. UAE residency itself does not grant Schengen visa-free access for non-exempt nationalities. UAE citizens (passport holders) can travel visa-free to Schengen countries.

Most countries offering UAE-residence-based access require your UAE residency to be valid for at least 6 months. Some require only 3 months. Always check the specific destination's requirements before booking.

Does a UAE residency give access to the GCC countries?

UAE residents can generally enter Bahrain, Oman and Qatar via visa-on-arrival or visa-free with their UAE residence visa. Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have different requirements. Confirm with each country's embassy before travel.

Is Georgia really visa-free for one year?

Georgia offers 365 continuous days visa-free for citizens of many countries (including most Arab, European, and South Asian nationalities). Check whether your specific passport nationality qualifies - the Georgian government publishes an official list.
