Where to Go in Georgia

Tbilisi - The Old City

Tbilisi's Old Town is a maze of carved wooden balconies, sulphur baths, and Orthodox churches. The Narikala Fortress overlooks it all. The Rustaveli Avenue area has galleries, cafes and the National Museum. A day here is not enough - plan at least 3 nights.

Kazbegi - The Mountains

Three hours north of Tbilisi, Stepantsminda (Kazbegi) sits at the foot of Mount Kazbek (5,047m). The Gergeti Trinity Church - perched on a hilltop at 2,170m - is one of the most photographed buildings in the Caucasus. The drive along the Georgian Military Highway is spectacular. Best visited May-October.

Batumi - The Black Sea Coast

Georgia's coastal city on the Black Sea is a mix of modern towers and old European architecture. Active, noisy, and better in summer. The seafront boulevard is pleasant for an evening walk. Batumi has direct flights from Dubai making it an option as a standalone destination.

Kakheti - Wine Country

Georgia is one of the oldest wine-making cultures in the world (8,000 years). The Kakheti region east of Tbilisi has hundreds of family wineries, ancient monasteries and vineyards. Best in autumn (October) when the harvest is underway.
