Turkey Holiday Guide from UAE 2025: Istanbul, Cappadocia & Antalya

By Big Bird Travel Team

Turkey has everything - ancient history, spectacular landscapes, great food, and value for money. From Istanbul's grand bazaars to Cappadocia's dawn balloon flights, this guide tells you exactly how to plan a Turkey trip from the UAE.

Turkey is a 4.5-hour flight from Dubai and requires a prior e-Visa for most passport nationalities (obtainable online in minutes for ~$50-100). It offers extraordinary variety: Istanbul is one of the world's great cities; Cappadocia is unlike anywhere on earth; Antalya's turquoise coast rivals any Mediterranean destination.

Visa - Turkey e-Visa for UAE Residents

Most nationalities with UAE residency can apply for the Turkey e-Visa online at evisa.gov.tr. Processing takes minutes to a few hours. The fee varies by nationality - typically $30-100 for a 90-day stay. Some nationalities (Arab nationals, GCC passport holders) may already have visa-free access.

Apply before you fly

Always apply for your Turkey e-Visa before arriving at the airport. Border officials rarely help with on-arrival issues and some airlines will not board you without a valid visa.

Where to Go in Turkey

Istanbul - 3-4 Nights Minimum

Split across two continents, Istanbul is overwhelming in the best way. The Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace are within walking distance of each other in Sultanahmet. The Grand Bazaar has 4,000 shops. The Bosphorus cruise is unmissable. Galata Tower area and Beyoglu are where to eat and drink in the evenings. A minimum of 3 nights is needed to scratch the surface.

Cappadocia - 2-3 Nights

Cappadocia's lunar landscape of "fairy chimneys," underground cities and cave hotels is one of the world's most extraordinary places. The must-do is a hot air balloon flight at dawn - around $150-300 per person, typically 1 hour in the air. Book through a reputable company. Goreme is the main village hub. Best visited April-June and September-November.

Antalya / Turkish Riviera - 4-5 Nights

Turkey's Mediterranean coast, sometimes called the "Turkish Riviera," stretches from Antalya to Bodrum. Antalya has direct flights from Dubai. The coast combines clear turquoise water, ancient ruins (Ephesus, Hierapolis at Pamukkale), and excellent resort hotels. Ideal for a beach holiday with cultural day trips.

April-May and September-October are the best months - comfortable temperatures, lower prices and smaller crowds than summer. Istanbul is pleasant year-round (winter is cold but atmospheric). Cappadocia balloon flights operate most of the year except heavy rain or high wind days. Coastal Antalya is best May-October.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a visa for Turkey from the UAE?

Most nationalities need an e-Visa for Turkey, obtainable online at evisa.gov.tr in minutes. Fees vary by nationality ($30-100). Some Arab nationalities and GCC passport holders may have visa-free access. UAE residency alone does not grant visa-free entry - it depends on your passport.

How much does a hot air balloon ride in Cappadocia cost?

Reputable operators charge $150-300 per person for a 1-hour flight. Prices below $100 should be approached with caution - safety standards vary. Book through your travel agent or a well-reviewed local company. Big Bird Travel can arrange this as part of a Cappadocia package.

Is Turkey halal-friendly for UAE travellers?

Turkey is a Muslim-majority country with extensive halal dining options. Alcohol is available but not ubiquitous. Mosques are accessible and prayer times are respected. It is one of the most Muslim-friendly destinations for UAE travellers outside the GCC.

What is the best area to stay in Istanbul?

For first-time visitors: Sultanahmet (near the sights - Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque) or Beyoglu/Taksim (restaurants, rooftop bars, more local). For longer stays, Besiktas or Kadikoy (Asian side) offer a more local experience.
