Documents Required for Umrah from UAE: Complete 2025 Checklist

Preparing the correct documents for Umrah is essential - incorrect or incomplete documentation leads to visa rejection or being turned away at the airport. Here is the complete 2025 checklist for UAE residents.
Saudi Arabia's Umrah requirements have evolved significantly since 2020. The Nusuk digital platform now handles registration for many pilgrims, and documentation requirements have been standardised. The following checklist reflects requirements as understood in early 2025 - always verify with Big Bird Travel before travelling as requirements can change.
Requirements change regularly
Saudi Umrah rules - including vaccination requirements, Mahram rules and specific document formats - are subject to periodic updates by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. This checklist is current as of early 2025 but should be verified before booking.
Core Document Checklist
Passport & Identity
- Original passport - valid for at least 6 months beyond travel date
- Passport must have at least 2 blank pages for entry/exit stamps
- UAE residence visa copy (if travelling on non-GCC passport)
- Emirates ID copy
- 2 recent passport photographs (white background, taken within 3 months)
Umrah Visa Documentation
- Completed Umrah visa application (usually handled by your travel agent)
- Nusuk platform registration (mandatory - creates your pilgrim profile)
- Signed declaration forms (provided by your travel agent)
- Proof of vaccination - see vaccination section below
Travel Booking Documents
- Confirmed return flight booking (Jeddah or Madinah)
- Hotel booking confirmation in Makkah
- Hotel booking confirmation in Madinah
- Package itinerary from your travel agency
- Travel insurance policy (covering medical, repatriation and cancellation)
Vaccination Requirements
Saudi Arabia requires proof of certain vaccinations for Umrah pilgrims. Requirements change - as of early 2025:
- Meningococcal meningitis vaccine - mandatory (ACYW135 quadrivalent, administered at least 10 days before travel)
- COVID-19 vaccination - requirements were removed as of 2023 but verify current status
- Yellow fever vaccination - required for pilgrims arriving from yellow fever endemic countries
- Polio vaccination - required for pilgrims from endemic countries
- All vaccinations should be recorded in your yellow International Vaccination Card
For Women Travelling for Umrah
- Women under 45: may travel in an organised group without a Mahram
- Women over 45: generally require a Mahram or must travel in an authorised group
- All women must be accompanied by an approved tour operator-organised group or verified Mahram
- Signed declaration from husband or guardian (where applicable)
What to Pack for Umrah
- Ihram clothing (for men - 2 white unstitched cloths). Women wear regular modest Islamic dress.
- Comfortable walking shoes - you will walk 5-10km per day during rituals
- Unscented soap and shampoo for use while in Ihram
- Small prayer mat
- Duas book or Umrah guide app (Nusuk app is free and excellent)
- Basic medication: paracetamol, rehydration salts (Makkah can be very hot)
- Small backpack or waist bag for essentials in the Haram
