The US tourist visa is one of the toughest to get from the UAE. This guide covers everything from the DS-160 application and interview preparation to the documents that really matter and the common mistakes that lead to rejection.
The US B1/B2 visa (tourist and business visitor) is the most scrutinised and interview-heavy visa UAE residents apply for. Unlike Schengen or UK visas, the US requires an in-person interview at the US Embassy or Consulate, and the officer's impression of you matters as much as your paperwork.

The Application Process
- 1.Complete the DS-160 form online at ceac.state.gov - carefully and accurately
- 2.Pay the MRV application fee ($185) via the designated bank or online
- 3.Register on the US Embassy appointment portal and schedule your visa interview
- 4.Gather all supporting documents
- 5.Attend the interview at the US Embassy Dubai or Consulate Abu Dhabi
- 6.Receive your passport back with visa (if approved) within a few days

- Valid passport (must be valid for at least 6 months beyond intended stay)
- Interview appointment letter printout

The Visa Interview - What to Expect
The interview is typically brief - 3 to 5 minutes. The consular officer will ask about your travel purpose, where you plan to stay, your employment, and your ties to the UAE that guarantee your return. Answer clearly and briefly. Do not volunteer information beyond what is asked.
Interview tips
Dress professionally. Bring organised documents. Be honest and direct. The single most important thing you can convey is that you have strong reasons to return to the UAE - your job, your family, your residency - and no intention of staying in the US illegally.
Administrative Processing (221g)
