Abu Dhabi City Tour Guide 2025: Best Sights, Itineraries & Tips
By Big Bird Travel Team
Abu Dhabi is 90 minutes from Dubai and home to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Yas Island theme parks and a stunning Corniche waterfront. Here is how to make the most of a day trip or overnight visit.
Abu Dhabi is the capital of the UAE and a destination in its own right - not just a day trip from Dubai. The city offers a different personality from Dubai: more spacious, more traditional in parts, with extraordinary museums and some of the most ambitious architecture in the world.
Top Sights in Abu Dhabi
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque - Free Entry
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world and arguably the most beautiful building in the UAE. It holds 41,000 worshippers, features the world's largest hand-knotted carpet, and has 82 domes inlaid with semi-precious stones. Entry is free for non-worshippers. Dress code is strictly enforced - abayas are provided for women at the entrance. Open Sunday-Thursday 9am-10pm, Friday closed for tours until 4pm.
Louvre Abu Dhabi - AED 63
The Abu Dhabi Louvre is a genuinely world-class museum - not a copy of the Paris original but a UAE-curated universal history of art. The Jean Nouvel-designed building with its rain of light dome is extraordinary. Allow 2-3 hours. Tuesday-Sunday 10am-8pm (10pm on Thursdays and Saturdays).
Abu Dhabi Corniche
The 8km Corniche waterfront promenade is perfect for an early morning or evening walk. The public beaches are clean and free. The city skyline view from the Corniche is one of the best in the UAE. The Corniche connects the city centre to the Khalidiyah neighbourhood and Heritage Village.
Yas Island - Theme Parks
Yas Island has Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi, Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld and the Yas Marina Circuit (host of the Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix). A day at any one park costs AED 295-400 per person. Yas is about 35 minutes from central Abu Dhabi and 60 minutes from Dubai.
Heritage Village and Old Town
The Heritage Village near the Corniche recreates a traditional Emirati fishing and pearling village. Free entry. The Mina Zayed area near the Fish Market offers a glimpse of old Abu Dhabi life. The Qasr Al Hosn fort - the oldest stone building in the UAE - is also worth visiting.
